This is Joey and she is a wonderful country singer that's fighting a nasty fight with Cervical Cancer. She was diagnosed about a year ago and on March 5, 2016 she passed. Before she passed she wrote a beautiful song call "When I'm Gone" for her daughter she left behind that suffers from down syndrome. Let's pray for both Joey and her precious daughter.

This beautiful little girl above is Aaban. We met her family in Children's Hospital and her name means "Angel." She was diagnosed with Cancer at a very young age, which was a result of a genetic disease. Her mother updated us and said that she is doing very well and is currently in remission. Let's pray for this little angel.
February 3, 2016:
Our Samuel B. Huey kids (Grades 2nd-5th) conducted the "Balloon & Skewer" experiment. The objective of the experiment was to successfully put a skewer through a blown up balloon without popping it. This group of unique individuals blew us away with how eager they were to jump right into it. There were a total of 26 students that attended this workshop and all 26 students successfully completed the experiment. We are very proud of each and every one of them. January 19, 2016:
During our S.T.E.M workshop with our Mastery Charter School students, we first went over in detail how the "Scientific Method" works. Afterwards, we had the students name "Common household items" that we have used in previous workshops. They were instructed to identify the acidity/base of that item, along with that identifying the chemical name for those items as well. For example: Baking Soda, which we have used several times is "Sodium Bicarbonate". To conclude the lesson, the students conducts a short experiment called "Stackable Liquids in a bottle", which was done using common household items. Those items consist of rubbing alcohol, vegetable oil, corn syrup, dishing washing liquid and water. This specific experiment was also bases on density. Density measures how much mass is contained in a given unit volume (Density = Mass / Volume). Think of mass as the measure of how much stuff there is in an object or liquid. Volume is the portion or how much there is of the object. Density is a measure of how tightly that stuff is packed together. As of January 14, 2016, Euree was 20 days Seizure FREE. January 15th, 2016 wasn't a good day for the little guy. After being Seizure Free for 20 days, it finally caught up to him on the 21st day. I'm extremely proud of this kid for coming this far. Next time instead of 20 days, we'll shoot for 30. #EpilepsySucks
As of December 29, 2015 Euree has been #4DaysSeizureFree and that might not be huge deal for most, but it's most definitely a HUGE deal to him and his family. For those four days, he has been able to do things he has not been able to do in months. Let's continue to not only pray that Euree finds a cure, but that all children/adults suffering from Epilepsy, find a cure.
During this S.T.E.M workshop at Mastery Charter School (Shoemaker), we had our students build reinforcements to conduct an egg drop. They were given $50 (fake money) to purchase supplies from us that they thought would secure their egg during he drop. Students worked in teams to design and construct an egg protective device. Students will be able to explore the different materials available and learn to apply concepts of momentum, impulse, force and energy to this project.
His Mother:
It was May 1, 2015 approximately 10:36am. I'm at work sitting at my desk laughing and joking with my co-worker, and my cellphone starts to ring. It's my grandmother! I answer the phone with a smile 😊 "HELLO" *Screaming* All I hear is her screaming *Nafisah he won't wake up* 😳 *Nafisah I can't get him to wake up. EUREE! GET UP!* *Something is wrong* I hang up the phone and run as fast as I can to my car out of my office building. As I'm driving towards home I get another call, this time it's my mother. "Nafisah he's breathing but something is wrong, your aunt just rushed him to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia" I do a U-turn and start doing 80 down Spruce Street. I was going so fast that I ended up directly behind my aunts car, I could see my little brother holding my son in his arms from the back window. I finally get to Euree and I see try to stand him up but he can't speak, stand or open his eyes. FAST FORWARD a few hours.... The doctor says "He had an unexplainable seizure, which happens sometimes. He is sleeping now and when he wakes up he should be back to his normal self. I'll get the discharge papers ready for you." Euree wakes up and he is back to his normal self but is confused as to how he got to the hospital. As Euree, his dad and I play around and talk while waiting for the discharge papers, Euree falls and goes into another Grand Mal seizure. As the doctors and nurses rushed in, at that very moment I felt like the world stopped. All I could do was scream and cry at the same time. How does one explain the reason for a completely healthy little boy, having not one but two Grand Mal seizures in one day? After the second seizure the doctor decided they were going to admit him and run test to find the cause of these unexplained seizures. They ran multiple test (EEG, CT- Scan, MRI) which concluded that Euree was indeed having abnormal brain activity. That day Euree was diagnosed with EPILEPSY. |
